Farm Tours

VISITS TO NEARBY VERMONT FAMILY FARMS.  A FAVORITE AFTERNOON FAMILY ACTIVITY.

Even though the Tyler Place offers more to do right on the property than most guests can squeeze into a single family vacation, many families take the opportunity to explore the surrounding hillsides and farms of Vermont. Showcasing these local farms connects you directly to our community—and the historic roots of the Tyler Place Family Resort, formerly a working farm for many generations. Many of these local purveyors help us fill our tables, with everything from eggs, meats and produce to the maple products that stock our Gift Shop shelves.

Here are some of the farms and vineyards just a short drive from your accommodation at the Tyler Place:

CARMAN BROOK FARM – On the Fortin Road in Highgate Springs, Vermont. A working sugar house and sugar bush, dairy farm and maple gift shop.

BOYDEN VALLEY WINERY – A fourth generation Vermont farm growing over 8,000 grapevines and producing more than a dozen international award-winning grape and fruit wines.

GREENWIND FARM SIGHTS – This Vermont family farm includes calves, heifers, draft horses, a sugar bush, and gardens full of strawberries, flowers and vegetables. Julie and Steve’s maple syrup can be found in our Tyler Place Store.

HEALTH HERO FARM – This family-run organic farm offers grass-fed beef, pastured eggs, veggies, and organizes a local multi-farm CSA. Farm education and farm tours (by appointment) are their specialty.

SNOW FARM VINEYARD – Located in South Hero, Vermont in the Champlain Islands, this family run vineyard produces award-winning wines and has been featured in Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Food and Wine and The New England Wine Gazette.

SHELBURNE FARMS – Located on Harbor Road in Shelburne, Vermont, Shelburne Farms was originally designed as a model agricultural estate in 1886 by Dr. William Seward Webb and Lila Vanderbilt Webb. Now a national historic site and a nonprofit environmental educational center. Tour the grounds, try milking a cow in the Children’s Farmyard, and stop in to watch their farmhouse cheddar cheese being made.

VERMONT WILDFLOWER FARM – The Vermont Wildflower Farm is a famous destination for wildflower gardens, with 6 acres of wildflowers.

CHOINIERE FAMILY FARM – Located in Highgate Center, this family-run organic farm is where we send our organized weekly adult tour.

“We love the food! It was great to be able to try new things: Zumba, art classes, sailing… We also really loved the farm tours – Guy really gave a nice tour. Made sure to hit the omelet station today just to try eggs from his farm.”

“LOVE TYLER PLACE STAFF! Everyone is so warm, friendly and we always feel like they truly want to take care of us! I was very impressed to visit the organic farm and hear how much LOCAL food The Tyler Place buys and uses. Also, we were very impressed to hear how many things the T.P. does in the community – scholarships, etc.”
